Understand your EMI

What is EMI?

Equated Monthly Instalment (EMI) is the regular payment that covers that month's interest and part of the principal.

Why does interest start higher?

Interest is calculated on the outstanding principal, so the interest portion often falls as the balance reduces.

How do extra payments help?

In this model, an extra payment is added to the regular EMI and used to reduce principal sooner. Lender prepayment rules and charges may differ.

Are the results a bank quote?

No. This is a planning estimate using your inputs. Verify the final EMI, amortization and prepayment terms with the lender.
