How GovtSave works

How GovtSave calculates estimates and references data

GovtSave is an independent educational resource. This page explains the assumptions behind our planning tools, where rate references come from, how market data should be interpreted and what users should verify before making decisions.

Important: GovtSave is not a government website, bank, broker or financial adviser. Our results are illustrative estimates, not forecasts or guaranteed balances, and are not personalised financial, tax or investment advice.

1. How calculator estimates are produced

Each calculator uses the inputs and assumptions stated beside its controls or results. A result is a mathematical scenario based on those inputs; it is not an official account statement, product quotation or promise of future returns.

  • PPF: The simplified maturity model uses the displayed annual-deposit and compounding assumptions. Official PPF interest follows prescribed balance and crediting rules, so the estimate may differ from an account statement.
  • SSY: The model illustrates yearly contributions during the modeled deposit period and growth through the modeled maturity horizon. Official eligibility, deposits and credited interest follow the scheme rules.
  • POMIS and SCSS: The projections illustrate periodic interest payouts using the selected assumption. The applicable official rate, deposit limits, account eligibility, payout and closure rules should be verified with the account provider.
  • NPS, SIP, lump sum and compound interest: These use user-selected or displayed assumptions. Market-linked returns are uncertain, and simplified projections may omit charges, taxes, annuity, inflation or other product-specific rules unless a page explicitly models them.

Use estimates to compare scenarios, not to replace scheme documents or personalised professional advice. Changing the assumed rate or contribution pattern can materially change the result.

2. How rates and product details are sourced

GovtSave prioritises primary public sources—such as the responsible government department, official savings agency or regulator—when documenting scheme rules and reference rates. Individual country pages link to official product information so readers can check eligibility, terms, taxes and effective periods directly.

Rates shown on GovtSave are curated reference values, not an automatic live feed. Where a rate is shown, use its displayed source date and validity period to understand the context. A rate may be changed by its issuer after a page is reviewed; always check the linked official notice or product page before acting.

3. How global market pages are interpreted

Country pages distinguish between interest-paying accounts, government securities, tax-advantaged account frameworks and prize-linked products. Those are not interchangeable. A prize-fund rate is not a guaranteed return for each saver, and a tax-advantaged account is not itself a single interest rate. Read the product-specific terms from the linked official source.

4. Market dashboard and practice trading

The market tracker requests chart and quote data from a third-party market-data endpoint. The provider may delay, limit or change access, and data may be temporarily unavailable. GovtSave does not represent that every quote is real-time or an official exchange feed; check the exchange or source provider for time-sensitive decisions.

Paper trading is simulated and does not place real orders, open a brokerage account or move real money. A practice portfolio is for learning how hypothetical entries and exits affect a simulated balance, not a recommendation to trade a security.

5. What happens to calculator inputs and saved information?

Different tools handle information differently. The PPF, SSY, POMIS, NPS and SCSS calculators send the values needed for a calculation to GovtSave's calculator API to return an estimate. Savings Goals and other browser-local tools may store entries in the browser's local storage. If a signed-in user deliberately saves a calculator result, the selected inputs and result are stored against that account so they can be viewed from the Dashboard.

Do not enter bank account numbers, Aadhaar, PAN, passwords or other sensitive credentials into planning tools. See the Privacy Policy for the fuller description of data handling and third-party resources.

6. Updates, corrections and responsibility

Official terms and product rates can change after this page's review date. We aim to make assumptions visible and link readers to primary sources, but cannot guarantee that every reference will reflect a newly issued update immediately. Please verify the relevant source before applying for a product or making a financial decision.

If you find a broken link, unclear assumption or possible data error, email govtsave@gmail.com. Please do not send account passwords, government ID numbers or bank credentials by email.
